“Opening Night” recording session

“Opening Night” recording session

On November 21, David led 11 members of the Asia America Youth Orchestra in the recording of the score to “Opening Night.”  A documentary by acclaimed film and television producer, Dan Guntzelman, “Opening Night” follows a local theater troupe, The Kentwood Players, from the inception of “Lil’ Abner” to its completion.  David Benoit composed, orchestrated, and conducted the recording session with these talented young musicians, ranging in age from 13-17.  It was an unforgettable experience for the kids (first time in a recording studio recording music to a professional feature film) as well as for David.

Pictures from the session are below.

Etudes for the Contemporary Pianist

Etudes for the Contemporary Pianist

Pianists, set aside your Czerny, your Chopin, your Debussy, and make room for something new.  From the creative mind of David Benoit comes classical music with a twist — “Etudes for the Contemporary Pianist.”  Take a musical journey along with David Benoit as your fingers run through “A Solitary Moment by the Ocean,” or go on a road trip together as you play “Journey in a Rental Car”; there’s even an etude about peacocks that have invaded Palos Verdes.  If your curiosity’s been piqued, here is a listing of the David Benoit Etudes, along with composer’s notes.  Even better, here is the link to special order your own copy of “Etudes for the Contemporary Pianist” by David Benoit.
